The Humanitarian Heart of Huruma

Every bag of Huruma cocoa beans carries more than exceptional flavor. They carry hope, opportunity, & transformation for communities across Uganda.

When you choose Huruma, you become part of a story that extends far beyond the cocoa beans in your hands. You become a partner in rescuing vulnerable children, empowering refugee women, uplifting tribal communities, and bringing life-giving water to those who need it most.

Together, we’re cultivating a safe haven for at-risk girls in Kampala.

In the bustling streets of urban Kampala, countless young girls face dangers that no child should ever know: exploitation, abandonment, and the crushing weight of poverty that steals their futures before they begin. Huruma Cocoa is committed to changing that narrative.

Through our partnership with an established orphanage and school in Uganda, we rescue at-risk girls from the most vulnerable circumstances and place them in a safe, nurturing environment where they can heal, learn, and dream. These girls are surrounded by beauty and clean dormitories, nutritious meals, dedicated teachers, and counselors who help them process trauma and rebuild confidence.

But rescue is only the beginning. Education is the bridge from survival to choice. In our school, girls learn not only reading, writing, and mathematics, but also life skills, vocational training, and leadership. They discover that they are not defined by their past, but by the possibilities they create for themselves. Many go on to become teachers, nurses, entrepreneurs, and advocates for other girls in their communities.

When you purchase Huruma cocoa, you are not just buying cocoa beans. You are buying a young girl her first safe night of sleep. You are buying her school uniform, her textbooks, and her chance to grow into a woman who chooses her own life.

Sewing Hope

Huruma Clothing Co. & Refugee Women

Uganda hosts one of the largest refugee populations in the world, with hundreds of thousands of women who have fled conflict and persecution in neighboring countries. Many arrive with nothing, no support network, and no way to feed their children. Huruma Clothing Co. exists to change that.

We recruit and train refugee women in the art of garment-making, providing them with marketable skills, fair wages, and dignified employment. In our workshops, women from diverse backgrounds from Karamoja, Congolese, Burundian, Rwandan sit side by side at sewing machines, transforming fabric into income, and income into independence.

The impact ripples outward. A woman who earns a steady wage can rent a safe home, enroll her children in school, and begin saving for a future she once thought impossible. She becomes a role model in her community, proof that displacement does not have to mean despair. Her children grow up seeing a mother who works with pride and provides with love.Huruma Clothing Co. is more than a social enterprise, it is a statement that refugee women are not burdens to be managed, but talents to be invested in. Every stitch they sew is a step toward self-reliance, and every garment they produce carries the weight of a family's restored dignity.

Your support of Huruma Cocoa directly funds the expansion of this program: more sewing machines, more training cohorts, more women walking through our doors and leaving with the power to provide.

Building Futures

Skill Training & Micro-Financing for the Karamojong

In the arid northeastern region of Uganda, the Karamojong people have long faced marginalization, limited infrastructure, and cycles of poverty that have kept generations from reaching their potential. Huruma Cocoa believes that lasting change comes not from handouts, but from equipping people with the tools to build their own prosperity.

Our initiative with Karamojong communities combines practical skill-building with access to capital; ingredients that, together, unlock entrepreneurship and economic self-sufficiency.

Skill-Building Programs

We deliver training in trades and livelihoods suited to local needs and markets: animal husbandry, beekeeping, agro-processing, small-scale retail, and basic financial literacy. These are not abstract classroom lessons. They are hands-on, community-based programs led by local trainers who understand the culture, the land, and the aspirations of the people they serve.rship and economic self-sufficiency.

Micro-Financing

Training without capital is like seed without soil. That is why Huruma provides micro-loans to graduates of our skill programs, giving them the startup capital to launch small businesses, purchase equipment, or buy their first inventory. These loans are structured with community accountability, reasonable terms, and ongoing mentorship not to create dependency, but to cultivate success.

The results speak for themselves. A Karamojong woman who once struggled to feed her children now runs a thriving poultry business. A young man who once saw no future beyond subsistence herding now manages a beekeeping cooperative that sells honey across the region. These are not charity cases. They are entrepreneurs, employers, and community leaders.

When you buy Huruma cocoa, you are not just investing in quality beans. You are investing in a Karamojong family's first business, their first profit, and their first step toward a life no longer defined by aid.

Water Is Life

Bringing Safe Drinking Water to Thirsty Communities

In many parts of Uganda, the search for water dominates daily life. Women and children walk for hours under the scorching sun, carrying heavy jerrycans to sources that are often contaminated with bacteria, parasites, and agricultural runoff. The water they bring home can cause illness, malnutrition, and death, especially among infants and the elderly.

Huruma Cocoa is committed to breaking this cycle through the construction of clean water wells in communities with the most urgent need. Each well we drill provides immediate, transformative relief: safe, bacterial and contaminant-free drinking water within walking distance of home.

The impact of a single well is staggering. Children who once missed school to fetch water now attend class regularly. Women who spent their days in exhaustion now have time for income-generating activities, rest, and care for their families. Waterborne diseases decline dramatically, reducing the burden on local clinics and saving lives. Gardens flourish. Hygiene improves. Dignity is restored.

We do not simply drill and leave. Our water projects include community training on well maintenance, sanitation practices, and water conservation ensuring that these wells remain operational and cherished for generations.

Every bag of Huruma cocoa contributes to the next well, the next community, and the next family no longer forced to choose between thirst and sickness.
